Widow strangulated to death

Bhawanipatna: In a shocking incident, a widow was strangulated to death by unidentified miscreants at Sector 2 area of Mukhiguda under Jayapatana police station area in Kalhandi district.

She has been identified as Shantilata Bewa. The miscreants entered the home late last night and locked the room from outside where grandson and grand daughter were asleep. Later, they tried to snatch the necklace, chain and ear rings she worn. As the Bewa resisted, they strangulated her and fled the spot, police added.

Police said the criminals must be tipped off about Rs 4 lakh withdrawn by the woman a day ago and accordingly they hatched a plan to loot the amount. However, the elderly woman had deposited the money in bank a day after the withdrawal.

Police have started investigation. The body of the woman has been seized for post-mortem, they said.
