Bolangir: Punjilal Meher, the main conspirator of the Patnagarh wedding gift blast, was sent to 14-day judicial custody by the Patnagarh SDJM Court after completion of his second phase remand today. Punjilal was sent to Patnagarh Sub-Jail after the court rejected his bail petition.

“Crime Branch produced Punjilal before the SDJM Court as his remand period was over and the court sent him to judicial custody. Our bail petition was rejected by the lower court so we will challenge it at the Bolangir district and sessions court,” said Punjilal’s lawyer.

Earlier in the day, the Crime Branch (CB) produced Punjilal in the court after conducting a medical examination at Patnagarh hospital this morning.

The CB officials along with Punjilal had returned from Raipur yesterday wherein the accused showed a live demonstration of the crime plot right from his arrival at Raipur in train to booking of the parcel at the courier service.

He even gave a live demonstration of his bomb making skills in presence of experts after returning to Odisha. Senior CB officials had informed that the purpose of reconstructing the crime scene was to ensure that the entire case is prosecuted without any error or weaknesses.

The investigating agency had also visited Kantabanji railway station after its return and questioned contractor of the vehicle parking area at the station. It was where Punjilal had parked his vehicle before leaving to Raipur.

Earlier on Sunday, Crime Branch IG Arun Bothra announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for information on the auto rickshaw driver who helped Punjilal in shipping the parcel. He said besides all the solid evidence against Punjilal, the auto rickshaw driver can help make the case stronger.
