Bolangir: Odisha DGP RP Sharma today confirmed the arrest of Punjilal Meher- prime accused in the parcel bomb explosion case that killed two persons at Patnagarh on February 23.

Sharma confirmed that Punjilal’s connection in the case was confirmed after a detailed Crime Branch investigation.

"Punjilal had planned this crime and executed it almost single handedly. He himself made the bomb with his own technique and went to Raipur carrying it in the shape of a parcel and booked it at a courier office near a railway station, Sharma said during a presser today.

Four other suspects- Skyking Courier owner Dilip Das, Courier delivery boy Sushant Seth, Chandramani Meher and Baibhasuth Bindhani who were being grilled by the CB officials were released today.

Police sources said Punjilal, who was the Principal at Bhainsa College before deceased Soumyasekhar's mother Sanjukta took over as the new principal of the college had hatched the conspiracy to settle personal scores.

Earlier on Tuesday, Punjilal's wife Soudamini refuted the allegations saying that it was a conspiracy against her husband by the probing agency as they failed to make any head way in the case.

On the fateful day, the newlywed Soumyasekhar and his grandmother were killed in an explosion while unwrapping a wedding gift they had received by courier. Soumyasekhar’s wife Reema Sahoo who was also critically injured in the incident was recently discharged from the SCB Hospital in Cuttack.
