Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday ordered a Crime Branch probe into the Patnagarh wedding gift blast incident, in which two persons including newly-wed Soumyasekhar Sahu and his grandmother were killed last month.

Naveen’s directive came a day after deceased Soumyasekhar’s wife Reema, who survived the blast, appealed the CM to expedite investigation and take stern action against those involved in the incident. Besides, family members of Soumyasekhar  and Reema had also met Patnaik a few days ago seeking justice.

Currently, Bolangir police is investigating the incident with Crime Branch’s support in cyber forensics. The cops had gone outside the State following some leads in this connection, but are yet to get any concrete clue.

On February 23, Soumyasekhar and his grandmother were killed while unwrapping a parcel that the newly-wed couple had received as wedding gift. Reema who was also seriously injured in the blast is presently undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack.
