Bhubaneswar: West Bengal (WB) police will take arrested politburo member of Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Red Star, Alik Chakraborty, on a 4-day transit remand.

The permission for transit remand was granted by the CJM court in Bhubaneswar today.

Alik was arrested in Bhubaneswar yesterday during a joint operation of Odisha and West Bengal Police.

According to sources, WB police will take Alik to Kolkata for interrogation.

On the other hand, Alik has refuted the charges and termed his arrest a conspiracy.

"I am not a Maoist. I belong to a registered party CPI (ML) Red Star. I had come to Bhubaneswar for treatment," said Chakraborty.

There are more than 70 cases registered against Alik, informed sources.

"He had come to Bhubaneswar for treatment. However, a conclusion can't be drawn that most-wanted individuals are staying in the capital city," said DCP Anup Sahu, Bhubaneswar.

Meanwhile, CPI (ML) Red Star's state unit staged protests today while Alik was being brought to the court premises today.
