Bhubaneswar: Vice-President of India Venkaiah Naidu, who is on a two-day tour of Odisha, was welcomed by Governor SC Jamir and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the Bhubaneswar airport today. From there he left with Jamir to spend night at the Raj Bhavan.

BJP State President Basant Panda, DGP RP Sharma, Bhubaneswar Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena among others was also present at the airport to receive the vice-president.

It is the first visit of Naidu after becoming the Vice-President of India. After the night stay at the Governor House, he will leave for KIIT University at 11 am on November 11 to attend the 13th annual convocation of the university.

The convocation will also be graced by Governor Jamir, Chief Minister Patnaik and German Nobel laureate in Physiology (2008) Prof Harald Zur Hausen. Degrees will be provided to as many as 4,820 students, including Bachelors, Masters, PhD and Dual degrees, during the annual convocation.

Earlier on November 3, the arrangements made for Naidu’s visit was discussed in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi and attended by DGP RP Sharma, Commissioner YB Khurania among others.

Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi had informed after the meeting that security to the Vice-President will be provided as per the Blue Book.
