Kendrapara: The people of this coastal district have rejected the 'family politics' by defeating most of the candidates hailing from political families.

The poll results for lower-rung of three-tier panchayati raj institution announced yesterday have made amply clear the voters disillusionment towards 'family politics'.

Kuhudi gram panchayat had witnessed an intriguing poll battle. The sitting Sarpanch Rajiv Prusty from Kuhudi GP had fielded his mother Agani Prusty and daughter Sushri Sangita in the polls for Sarpanch post. But both of them lost the polls.

The sitting Sarpanch from Angulai GP had fielded his daughter-in-law Sashmita Mallick to poll arena apparently to control the panchayat body. Voters also rejected her.

Similar instances of people rejecting outright the family politics are also pouring in different parts of this politically-sensitive coastal district with voters scuttling down the aspiration of power-hungry village-level politicians.

In riverside Raghabpur GP in Patkura assembly constituency, Sashmita Parida was in the fray for panchayat samity member post while her mother-in-law Mamatarani Parida was elected Sarpanch in last polls.

In neighbouring Batira GP, the ex-Sarpanch Muktarani Behera had fielded her sister-in-law and brother-in-law.

They too were rejected by the people who instead elected a new candidate.

Kedar Samantaray lost the Sarpanch polls from Karilopatana GP the result of which was declared today. His spouse Binodini Samantaray was the member of the panchayat samity last time.

Minarani Sahu was the chairman of Marshaghai panchayat samity. Her husband Ranjan Sahu contested for Sarpanch post from Silipur gram panchayat and lost.
