Bhubaneswar: A team of police from Visakhapatnam will meet the father of ragging victim Shreyas Keshwani who died after being beaten up by senior students at Sri Chaitanya Junior College hostel there.

The team led by inspector in-charge of PM Palem police station will also subsequently visit the hospitals in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela where the student underwent treatment.

The move comes after Vizag police Commissioner entrusted PM Palem police with the task of investigation.

A team of Sambalpur police had also visited Sri Chaitanya Junior College, located at Marikavalasa, and began a probe in association with the Visakhapatnam police.

Earlier on Tuesday, the college authorities had denied ragging to be the reason behind the death of Shreyas.

"As first year students were residing in the hostel, in which Kesharwani was staying, there was no chance of ragging," said Gopi Krishan, chief administrator of the college.

Kesharwani was allegedly ragged by his friends at the college hostel a few days ago. The family members alleged that he was beaten up by three to four students after which he sustained critical injuries. Since the college authorities did not take any step even after his family members brought the matter to their notice, the latter brought Shreyas back to home.

He was admitted to a hospital in Rourkela for treatment and later shifted to Bhubaneswar. Shreyas died while undergoing treatment at the hospital last Saturday.

The family members of the deceased had lodged a complaint at the Garposh police outpost four days back.
