Puri: Visitors to Puri town have been insured for Rs 5 lakh each from June 24 to July 6, said the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) public relation officer Laxmidhara Pujapanda today.

In case of unnatural death, stampede and possible terror attack, a visitor can claim Rs 5 lakh insurance amount in the Puri municipal area, he added.

For visitors, the insurance cover period includes Rath Yatra eve and goes beyond Bahuda Yatra that falls on July 3. Similarly, insurance cover has been provided for devotees, sevayats and SJTA staff in the Sri Jagannath Temple premises for nine days from June 25 to July 3.

In case of any mishap in the Sri Mandir premises, visitors can claim Rs 5 lakh insurance amount from July 22, 2017 to July 21, 2018.

Biswakarma Maharana, Bhoi servitors and other carpenters at the ‘Ratha Khala’, where chariots are built, have also been insured for the first time this year.

The National Insurance Company has been given the insurance task, Pujapanda added.
