Sambalpur: Medicos including junior doctors, house surgeons, PG doctors and UG medical students of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla today staged a unified protest against the transfer order of 14 doctors of the medical college.

The development came after a government notification earlier in the day ordering the trasfer of doctors to Berhampur, Baripada and Koraput.

The Junior Doctor Association (JDA) alleged that while there is drastic shortage of medicos in VIMSAR it is unwise on part of the government to transfer doctors to other areas. The association said the step will badly hamper the medical services.

“I have proof of the fact that out of the 14 doctors who have been directed for transference, five of them had chosen to stay here in Burla medical college. The doctors are willing to stay here and serve but the government has transferred them overnight. While shortage of doctors, dilapidated health services and decline in level of medical education is plaguing the college at such a time how did the government transfer the doctors who want to stay here, Dr Shankar Ramchandani,” Convenor of VIMSAR Student Union.

Besides, the recruitment of 56 doctors through contractual basis which was earlier scheduled for initiation has now been halted. On such a backdrop the doctor associations have warned of severe consequences in future if the transfer orders of the doctors are not repealed.

On the other hand the administration commented that the transference of doctors is according to government system. The doctors have been transferred after promotion through Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC).

"The promotion is made through high level committee called DPC comprising of Chief Secretary, Health Secretary, DMET and other high level officials and there is no role of Burla College," Professor Braja Mishra, VIMSAR Superintendent said.
