Nayagarh: Demanding closure of an aluminium factory at Nabaghanpur village under Town Police limits in Nayagarh district, locals today detained seven persons including the owner of the factory, following which tension is prevailing in the area.

Alleging the aluminium factory is illegal the villagers have been demanding closure of the factory since many labourers have been injured in frequent accidents here.

A meeting in this regard had also been organised in the village and people had also been barred to work in the factory.

Talking to media persons a villager said, “Two persons have died in last 30 years and 40 others have been injured. They only provide Rs 5 to 6 lakh if a person dies, they don’t have any humanity. The factory should be shifted from our village.”

However, as the factory owner re-opened it, the villagers detained him along with six others by locking them inside a room.

A detained labourer said, “We were working with the owner of the factory. The villagers had ostracised the owner and as we meet him we have also been locked here.”

Police is still to take any action on the issue.

However, Nayagarh Additional SP Sridhar Pani said, “There is a dispute between the owner of the aluminium industry and villagers relating to an old accident. The village committee is trying to find a solution to the problem. Police has kept an eye on the incident but has not received a complaint from any of the parties.”
