Baripada: Demanding an impartial inquiry into the death of a teacher, locals of Khadabandh village in Mayurbhanj district staged a dharna in front of the Bahalda police station yesterday.

Alleging that the teacher, Dasamata Hansda, was killed by some miscreants, the villagers demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and submitted a memorandum to SDPO Amulya Kumar Dhir.

“It was not an accident rather a planned murder. Demanding arrest of the culprits, we have gathered here and submitted a written plea to the SDPO. We hope the deceased teacher will get justice soon,” said Bhanjalal Hembram, a villager.

“Khadabandh villagers have lodged a complaint alleging that the teacher has been murdered. Though the post mortem report says it was an accident only, we will reinvestigate the incident if we get any lead related to the case,” said Inspector-in-Charge of Bahalda police station, Nalita Mudi.

Meanwhile, police personnel were deployed at the protest spot to maintain law and order situation and avoid any untoward incident.
