Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths today carried out searches at seven places, including the official residence of Himansu Kar alias Happy, as part of its investigation into the fraud committed by Motilala Gouda, the former assistant director of Factories & Boilers who is presently lodged at Jharapada jail for his involvement in the fake gazette notification scam.

The raiding team also searched the house of Happy's in-laws and two of his relatives at Jagamara area in the Capital city.

“The vigilance had carried out a secret inquiry into the allegation of his disproportionate assets. The search is on now in seven places including his native in Kendrapara and six other places in Bhubaneswar. The motive of the raids is to unearth documents related to his movable and immovable properties, which would assist in further investigation”, vigilance director RP Sharma said.

Clarifying his relationship with Gouda, Happy said "I know him (Motilal) as a doctor only. I have not done any financial transaction with him. Truth will come out after investigation".

Kar, who is working as a grade-III employee at Capital Hospital here, had been quizzed by the Crime Branch earlier. He had furnished some bank documents, the sources added.

Surprisingly, Kar has around Rs 2.5 crore in his bank account. The investigating agency is probing the source of this money, besides the monetary transactions of Kar with Gouda.

Investigations have revealed that Happy had fraudulently obtained a handicapped certificate for his wife and cornered construction contracts worth crores in her name over the last few years.

Happy has been in news ever since photographs of him with Motilal appeared in the media. It is suspected that Kar was working as a mediator between Gouda and ministers and ruling party politicians.
