Bhubaneswar: In a setback to Odisha Congress, Veteran Ollywood actor Bijay Mohanty resigned from the party on Friday.

Asked about the reason behind his resignation, Mohanty mentioned that he was not actively involved in politics after the 2014 general elections.

He further stated that even though he did not attend any of the party’s programmes after the election, people attached his name with the party. On March 31, Mohanty had sent his resignation to OPCC Chief Prasad Harichandan.

“Congress is indeed a very big political party and I am just like a small creature in that ocean. Situation and circumstances were different when I joined the party. Neither the party will suffer any loss, nor will I get any profit after resigning. I don't want to be tagged as a member of the party anymore. Therefore I decided to resign.”

However, the actor made his intentions clear that he would not join any other party.

On the other hand, senior Congress leader Suresh Routray responded saying that Bijay Mohanty leaving Congress will not have any effect on the party.

The actor had joined the party at the Congress Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on February 2014 in presence of the then Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Jayadev Jena and Ranjib Biswal.
