Bhubaneswar: Veteran Ollywood actress Aparajita Mohanty, who had resigned from Congress party recently, joined the BJP today in presence of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, State vice-president Sameer Mohanty, spokesperson Pitambar Acharya and other senior leaders at party’s State headquarters in Bhubaneswar.

She said the ideology and nature of work of Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards making a developed India attracted her to join the party. “I was inspired by PM Modi who has vowed to provide pucca house to every household, employment to all youths and security to women. I seek cooperation from every member of the party to take forward the ideologies of the Prime Minister for building a better Odisha,” Mohanty said soon after joining.

“I thank all members of BJP for giving me such an opportunity to connect with the public. It is the best platform to serve people of Odisha,” the eminent actress added.

Aparajita had unsuccessfully contested election on Congress ticket from Cuttack Parliamentary constituency in 2014.

She joined the saffron party at a juncture when Bijepur by-election is just days away with parties preferring star campaigners to attract voters.

Earlier, three other eminent Odia film actors, Mahasweta Ray, Anu Choudhury and Mihir Das had joined the BJP.
