Mohana: Verification of nomination papers could not be held in Baghamari panchayat of Mohana block in Gajapati district today due to the protest by the villagers.

Reports said the irate people of Baghamari village locked the Baghamari Panchayat office protesting the brutal murder of a woman Mini Dalabehera, who had filed her nomination as a Congress candidate for the post of sarpanch of Baghamari panchayat.

Following the protest by the villagers, the Treasury Officer who was assigned to verify nomination papers had to return to the district headquarters.

Besides Dalabehera, two other candidates had also filed their nominations.

The half-burnt body of the woman sarpanch candidate was found inside Sagada hill forest on January 11.

The  body was later taken to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for post mortem which was conducted by the doctors of the FMT department.

As informed by the doctors, the miscreants had set the body of the woman on fire after killing her.

The doctors, however, said it was not established whether the miscreants had raped her as the genital part of the body was burnt.
