Berhampur: Days after Berhampur University Students’ Union President brought up allegations of mismanagement of funds against the varsity authorities, some non-students allegedly entered the Boys’ hostel premises and ransacked two motor vehicles parked inside on Sunday.

As per sources, Union President V Srinivas Rao and one of his friends Alok Dalai, reportedly the boarders of Indrabati Hostel, had parked their vehicle inside the hostel campus. Next morning, the motorcycles were found damaged with the seats torn. They informed the varsity authorities and later lodged a complaint with the local police.

The incident happened despite the presence of a security guard posted at the gate of the hostel. So it has not been ascertained whether the miscreants are non-students or belong to the same hostel where the incident occurred.

Distressed, Rao in his Facebook post, stated" Such a cheap trick played against me. Shameful act like children of class 5 do."

Meanwhile, palpable tension has gripped Bhanja Bihar as the hostel inmates have alleged that the Union President has been in the target for a while now after he organised a presser demanding a CBI probe into the mismanagement of university funds.

Reportedly on January 21, the leaders including president of the Union Rao, leveled allegations of serious irregularities in funds released under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (Rusa) and UGC. Moreover, they pointed at the ‘faulty’ process the Vice-Chancellor adopted to renovate the faculty club into his quarters alleging that no tender was invited for the Rs 2 crore work. The union leaders also blamed the VC for shutdown of Distance Education course in the varsity arbitrarily, which has affected thousands.
