Bhubaneswar: Authorities of the Utkal University today cancelled the students’ union elections and declared sine die until further orders.

A notification issued by the Utkal University stated, “The students’ union election scheduled to be held on September 23 stands cancelled.”

All inmates of boys and girls hostels have been asked to vacate their rooms by 6 pm today.

Besides, prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC have been clamped at the main gate of the university in view of tension.

Entry of outsiders has been strictly restricted and police are allowing only students, staff and hostel employees into the campus on production of proper identity proof.

Meanwhile, a group of students ransacked the vice chancellor's office after a dharna protesting cancellation of the polls.

Yesterday some miscreants hurled bombs at a women’s hostel of the varsity and vice chancellor’s office following a clash between two groups of students.

Earlier on September 13, violence was witnessed on the varsity premises after a group clash which left two students injured including a presidential aspirant.
