Bhubaneswar: The proceedings of the ongoing monsoon session of Odisha Legislative Assembly was once again disrupted following pandemonium by Congress and ruling BJD MLAs over fuel price hike here on Saturday.

The last day of the session witnessed uproarious scenes with MLAs of both the parties creating ruckus in the House.

Congress members targeted the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led BJP government for the steep hike in petrol and diesel prices which have adversely affected the common man in the country.

Keeping in view the pandemonium, the speaker adjourned the proceedings of the House till 3 pm today.

Later, MLAs of the ruling BJD also staged a demonstration protesting the fuel price hike despite sharp fall in the crude oil prices in the international markets.

“BJP led Union Government is responsible for the hike in the fuel prices despite sharp fall in crude oil prices. We had tried to raise the issue as it is affecting the common man in the State,” said BJD spokesperson Sameer Dash.

BJP on the other hand targeted Congress for shielding Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik by creating such disruptions during the proceedings in the House today.

However, Congress Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati rubbished the allegations levelled by BJP legislators.

BJP Vice President Samir Mohanty while addressing a press conference came down heavily on ruling BJD for politicising the issue by calling for a state wide agitation.

“It is a political conspiracy against Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik should lead a campaign to bring petrol and diesel under GST ambit,” said Mohanty.
