Bhubaneswar: In an unfortunate incident, a newborn baby girl was rescued by locals near a drain in Jamunali village in Angul. As per reports, the girl, believed to be no more than 10 -12 days old, was recovered by  a local who was passing by the drain on Wednesday afternoon.

"On seeing her condition we immediately rushed the baby to hospital and she is doing fine now," said Kadambini Behera, a local.

Meanwhile, Gourishankar Behera, DCPO, Angul said, "The girl will be handed over to the child welfare committee after she is discharged from the hospital. We will also give advertisement in various newspapers and if within one month no guardian comes to her rescue then as per Juvenile Act she will be rehabilitated."

In a similar incident, another newborn baby girl was recovered in Ranpur village of Nayagarh district today. As per reports, the baby was found near a borewell of a veterinary hospital. On seeing her condition villagers took her to a nearby hospital. The infant is reportedly around two days old. Further, Nayagarh Childline officials reached the hospital and initiated an investigation into the matter.
