Undertrial prisoner attempts suicide in Kujang

An undertrial prisoner allegedly attempted suicide by slitting his throat in Samagola Sub-Jail near Kujang on Tuesday. The prisoner, identified as Gopinath Swain, was lodged in the Sub-Jail four days ago for allegedly burning a girl alive.

Paradip: An undertrial prisoner allegedly attempted suicide by slitting his throat in Samagola Sub-Jail near Kujang on Tuesday.

The prisoner, identified as Gopinath Swain, was lodged in the Sub-Jail four days ago for allegedly burning a girl alive.

According to reports, after finishing his daily work this morning he took the extreme step and slit his throat with the help of a blade.

Other inmates of the jail, after finding Gopinath injured, raised an alarm following which he was rescued and rushed to the Kujang Medical for treatment.

Sources said, he was later admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital and from there shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack as his condition deteriorated.
