Uncertainty looms over career of Plus II students

Bhubaneswar: Uncertainty looms large over the career of Plus II students across the state as the School and Mass Education department is yet to take a call on whether to conduct the first year examination of the students or not.

Though, the Plus II courses have come under the School and Mass Education department two months ago, the department has completely failed to give a clear picture on the possibilities of the examination.

Moreover, the department’s bid to usher in reforms in Plus-II education by introducing CBSE syllabus can be termed as a complete failure as many colleges in the state are failing to take sufficient classes that are being taken by CBSE colleges.

Ranjana Chopra, School and Mass Education department secretary, said, “Our council is preparing its own curriculum. Later, the council will decide on the number of classes to complete the courses.”

Basudev Chatoi, chairman of Council of Higher Secondary Education said, “We will naturally need some time to conduct the first year’s examination at council level. The government is ready to conduct the examination as everyone thinks this is the right way.”

As per CBSE pattern, each course of each subject is covered in 70-80 classes in a week. But in case of government colleges of the state, the lectures are taking 25 classes per week making it difficult to complete course on time.
