Umerkote: BJP activists today staged a road blockade here today demanding Rs 5 lakh compensation and a pucca house under the Biju Pucca Ghara Yojana to the family members of the deceased, who died in a trench collapse incident on Friday.

The party activists blocked the road near Jharigaon police station and bus stand in the district. They alleged that the state government is showing step-motherly attitude towards Nabarangpur district. "While the government had announced Rs 2 lakh compensation for the family members of around 30 deceased, who died when a bus carrying opera artistes fell into a gorge in Deogarh, no such compensation has been provided to the family members of the deceased who died in a road accident that had claimed around 12 lives last year," alleged a party activist.

"We will resort to a bandh in the district in coming days If the government does not declare compensation for the family members of the trench collapse victims," he warned.

Notably, three persons of a family, including two women and a minor boy were killed when a trench collapsed at Barandipara village under Jharigaon block in the district on Friday. The trench collapsed when they were digging for soil.
