UGC NET 2017: Students upset over 66% hike in application fee

Bhubaneswar: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has increased the UGC NET 2017 examination fee by approximately 66% much to the dismay of lakhs of aspiring students.

The 66% hike in UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) 2017 exam fee is twice more than the previous increase.

The hike has been implemented for all the categories, majorly affecting the unreserved category candidates. The students of General Category were earlier paying Rs 600 but now they have to pay Rs 1000.

Similarly, the OBC-NCL category candidates will now pay Rs 500 as against Rs 300 being paid by them earlier.

UGC NET November 2017 exam fee for the candidates belonging to the SC/ST candidates has been hiked from Rs 150 to 250.

“We were not expecting such a steep increase. It’s just unbelievable the way the government is increasing prices in every sector,” said an aspirant.

“Earlier, the exam was pushed from July to November and now the fee has been increased by Rs 400. It’s an anti-student move of the concerned authorities,” said an ex-student of Ravenshaw University.

UGC is regularly changing its terms and conditions. The sudden hike is too much and it will put extra burden on the students. This is disappointing.

The UGC NET 2017 exam registration process has already begun from August 11 and the exam will be conducted on November 5 this year.

The last date for applying online is September 11.
