Rourkela: Steel City Rourkela will soon be featured on the aviation map of India as the Steel Authority of India (SAIL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for utilization of airstrips at its three facilities, including Rourkela under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) -UDAN.

The two other cities in the MoU which will be utilised under UDAN scheme include Bokaro and Burnpur of Jharkhand and West Bengal, respectively.

The scheme, launched by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, aims at enhancing regional air connectivity by providing support in terms of infrastructure and other facilities.

Under the MoU, AAI as an implementation agency under RCS-UDAN will be executing the required works before commencement of flight operations at all these three airports. Eventually, the AAI will operate and manage airport operations for Rourkela, Bokaro and Burnpur on behalf of SAIL for three years.
