Two youths abduct, rape Class IX girl

Boudh: A Class IX girl was allegedly raped after being abducted by two youths in Kodibahal village under Kantamal Tehsil of Boudh district, police said today.

The incident took place yesterday when the girl had arrived at the village to attend the marriage function of a relative. She along with her paternal aunt had gone to fetch water from a nearby tube well in the evening for answering nature’s call. Two youths from the village abducted the girl in front of her aunt and carried her away to a nearby forest where they raped her. The youths later left the girl at around 10 pm.

A complaint has been lodged at Kantamal police station. The accused are absconding and the police have begun the investigation, informed sources.

"The family lodged a report at around 10.30 pm yesterday. The girl said that she had arrived in the village to attend a marriage function of a relative. She had gone to answer nature’s call with her aunt in the evening when two youths of Kodibahal abducted her and one of them raped her," said IIC of Kantamal police station, Purna Chandra Kishan.

In another shocking incident, two persons were detained in Jharadihi village under Tiringi police limits of Mayurbhanj district today on charges of attempting to rape a differently-abled girl. The two have been identified as neighbours of the girl who entered the house when she was alone and attempted to rape her.
