Nuapada: Two suspected Maoists cadres were reportedly injured in an exchange of fire between security personnel and red rebels near Kholibhitar inside Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary in Nuapada district on Tuesday.

The injured rebels identified as Chatur Chinda and Bidya Chinda of Kholibhitar area in the district, have been admitted to the Raipur Hospital at Chattisgarh.

According to reports, the Maoists suddenly opened fired at the SOG team when the latter was engaged in combing operation near Kholibhitar area. The officials back fired in retaliation, leaving two of them injured.

Later, the SOG personnel rushed them to the Nuapada District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) from where they were shifted to Raipur Hospital after primary treatment.

A Maoist camp spotted nearby was destroyed by the security personnel. Two rifles, knives, ammunition, cash and other items were recovered during the search operation. It is believed that the ultras were holding a meeting at the hide-out at the time of the operation.
