Two migrant labourers rescued from Bengaluru

Sambalpur: In yet another case of illegal labour trafficking, two persons who had gone to Bengaluru in search of work and were allegedly tortured there, were rescued with the help of a local person.

Sambalpur: In yet another case of illegal labour trafficking, two persons who had gone to Bengaluru in search of work and were allegedly tortured there, were rescued with the help of a local person.

According to reports, the two migrant labourers reached Sambalpur with the help of a person of Hirakud area in the district, whom the duo met at Bengaluru railway station.

“We had gone to Bengaluru a month ago and there we were tortured, beaten up and threatened with murder when we told him we wanted to go home,” said a rescued youth.

He also alleged that one Deepak, who had taken them along with other 20-25 persons, had kept us captive for around 18 days giving them just one meal a day.

Meanwhile, the Government Railway Police (GRP) has started investigation into the matter after sending the duo to a child help line center.

Labour department officials of Bolangir district have rescued as many as 126 migrant labourers, including children and women, hailing from the district from Tamil Nadu.
