Rourkela: Two Maoists, including a woman, surrendered before Rourkela Police this morning.

The duo, while surrendering before Rourkela SP Anirudh Kumar Singh, said they were fed up with the highhanded attitude and torture by their seniors in gross violation of Maoist ideology.

Talking to media persons, Singh said the two Maoists are Sanjay Munda of Sanabalijor village under K Balang police limits in Sundargarh district and Sunita Mundari of Latehar district in Jharkhand.

“The two Maoists were operating along the border of Sundargarh and Deogarh districts. They were involved in an encounter with the police inside Kelo forest under Gurundia police limits on June 23 and 28 this year. During the encounter, the Maoists managed to flee the area. Police later traced a camp inside the forest and seized some arms and ammunition and some Maoist articles. Soon after the encounter, police had intensified combing operation in the forest while the CRPF personnel had continued combing operation on the border area of the district,” the SP added.

He said the two Maoists would be rehabilitated as per the surrender policy of the state government.
