Malkangiri: Malkangiri police has arrested two Maoists, allegedly involved in the killing of a tribal man in Kalimela area of the district two days ago.

The members of the extremist group, aged around 25 years, were caught by security personnel from a forest near Sudhakunda, Malkangiri Superintendent of Police, Jagmohan Meena informed. However, he  declined to disclose the identity of the duo.

Meena said the rebels were nabbed during a combing operation launched by the security personnel in the forest area in the aftermath of the gunning down of Ganga Madkami on Wednesday night at Sudhakunda village.

A group of around 20 red rebels had forcibly taken Madkami, aged around 30, from his house to a deserted place on the outskirt of the village and shot him dead.

Apart from their involvement in the killing of Madkami, the two Maoists were also involved in shooting a tribal village headman and injuring him in the district on June 11, police said

The SP said investigation was in progress to ascertain the involvement of the two arrested ultras in other offences.
