Two fishermen fatally electrocuted inside pond

Kendrapara: In an unfortunate incident, two fishermen were electrocuted to death after coming in contact with a live wire inside a pond in Aiba Brahmapur village under Purushottampur Panchayat under Sadar police limits of the district in the wee hours today.

As per sources, the deceased, identified as Gokul Sethi of Kuhudi Arakhya village and Amar Pradhan of Aiba Brahmapur village, had gone for fishing at around 4 am this morning when the incident occurred.

Reportedly, one Mantu Pani had taken the pond on lease from Daitari Rout for fish farming. Pani, however, forgot to remove the electric fencing this morning he used in the pond and Gokul and Amar, unaware of this, got down into the pond along with a few other villagers.

The duo came in contact with the live wire and was fatally electrocuted on the spot, while another person also sustained injuries when he attempted to save the duo.

Getting information, Kendrapara Sadar police rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation. “We have begun investigation to find out who is responsible for the incident,” said a police official.
