Sambalpur: Police has begun investigation into the brutal murder of an old man and a woman inside a house at Bhoimunda village under Sasan police limits late on Friday night.

According to reports, Elium Munda, a BSF jawan of Bhoimunda village presently posted in Punjab, had gone with his family to Bamra village last night to attend a marriage ceremony of his kin. Before leaving his village, he had asked his kin Jashi Soren and Ripka Soren to guard his house.

In the morning, Elium received a call from a person in his village about the murder of the two kin in his house.

“Upon reaching the house, I saw Jashi was lying on the floor while Ripka was lying on a cot with her head in the court yard. When I went into my bedroom, I found my almirah broken and skylight open. The burglars must have entered the room after breaking the skylight. May be they have asked my two kin to hand over the almirah key and killed them when they resisted,” Elium told media persons.

Talking to media persons, Sadar SDPO Gagarin Mohanty said the burglars have looted cash worth Rs 40, 000 and two pairs of gold ear rings.

“Preliminary investigation suggests that the burglars were known to the old man and woman and killed them for fear of being identified. We have completed spot verification with a scientific team and are hopeful of nabbing the assailants at the earliest,” Mohanty said.
