Twist in Patanaikia firing: woman’s husband, son among 3 detained

Puri: In a bizarre twist to incident of firing by miscreants initially suspected to be chain snatchers leading to the death of a man and injuries to a woman accompanying him at Patanaikia square on Puri-Bhubaneswar National Highway yesterday, the police today detained three persons, including the woman’s husband and son for interrogation in the case.

According to sources, Puri police is questioning the three detained persons suspecting their involvement in the crime that left Manoranjan Behera dead and his companion Renubala seriously injured.

“We have detained and are questioning the woman’s husband Chandrakanta and son Biplab to find some vital lead. The man shot dead yesterday, Manoranjan Behera, is a distant relative of the injured woman and a brother-in-law in relation,” said Puri SP Sarthak Sarangi.

The SP also said two mobile phones and three SIM cards have been seized from Renubala during interrogation.

It may be recalled here that two bike-borne assailants had shot Manoranjan dead and robbed Renubala of her ornaments in broad daylight near Patanaikia chhak on Bhubaneswar-Puri national highway yesterday while they were on their way to Puri.
