Twin female foetuses found in drain in Berhampur

Berhampur: Two aborted female foetuses wrapped in a plastic bag were found dumped in a road side drain at Ashok Nagar under Baidyanathpur police limits in Berhampur of Ganjam district today.

The twin foetuses –barely five month old, were spotted by locals who immediately alerted the Baidyanathpur police.Initially it was suspected to be a single foetus. However, autopsy of the remains revealed the presence of two foetuses.

CCTV footage of a camera installed in the area showed that the bag came flowing in the drain around 2 am Sunday night. It was taken out by some street dogs that pulled out the bag from the drain and dragged it to the roadside.

“It is really unfortunate that despite stringent laws against female foeticide, girl children being killed even before birth. Someone might have aborted the twins for being girls,” a local said.
