Truck mishap kills 6 in Kalahandi

Bhawanipatna: A truck laden with iron plates overturned at Ambapani Ghat in Kalahandi district, killing six persons and injuring four others, today.

The injured persons were admitted to Koksara hospital and two were later shifted to District Headquarter Hospital (DHH) in Bhawanipatna as their condition deteriorated. The deceased included two women and four men. All of them were reported to be labourers.

Sources said that the reason behind the accident is suspected to be brake failure. After the accident the persons riding the truck were trampled under the iron plates killing six of them. The driver of the truck fled from the spot. Fire brigade and Koksara police are undergoing rescue operations at the spot suspecting more persons to be trapped under the iron plates.

From the clothings of the deceased and injured persons they are suspected to be residents of Nabarangpur district who had come for marketing to the nearby market at Ambapani.

Police are still to start the investigation process, as they are busy in the rescue operations. Though the condition of the truck is poor, actual condition of the truck will be known after checking the fitness certificate and arrest of the driver.
