Nayagarh: In what may be a case of loot bid, a truck driver was grievously injured after unidentified miscreants opened fire at him here in Nayagarh district on Monday.

The incident happened in the morning near Badagorada under Sarankul police limits of the district when two armed bike-borne miscreants intercepted a cement-laden truck and fired at the driver from a close range, leaving him seriously injured.

Rescued, the driver was admitted to Nayagarh DHH and later shifted to Bhubaneswar for treatment.

Meanwhile, Saranakul police have initiated an investigation and launched a manhunt to nab the two bike-borne miscreants. However, the identity of the accused has not been ascertained yet.

"The two assailants fired at the driver in a bid to loot all the cement.  The driver has sustained bullet injuries in his right hand and shoulder. Investigation is on. The attackers will be arrested soon," said a police official.
