Truck detained on suspicion of carrying beef

Bhubaneswar: A mini truck driver, allegedly transporting beef from Cuttack to Bhubaneswar was detained at Rasulgarh here on Saturday.

The incident came to light in the morning after few locals intercepted the truck after it was responsible for a series of accidents on the National Highway.

“I narrowly escaped after the truck hit my vehicle near Palasuni and later it was detained by locals near Rasulgarh,” said Bijay Ketan, an eye-witness.

After stopping the truck near Rasulgarh, the locals found that it was laden with meat. Suspecting it to be beef, locals informed police about the incident.

A large number of people had also gathered near Rasulgarh square after the news about the truck carrying meat spread. Police  have detained the driver who is being further interrogated in connection with the incident.

“The meat samples have been sent for examination and further investigation is on,” said a senior police official.
