Tribals torch CRPF camp opposing road construction

Rayagada: The dongria kondhs today torched a CRPF camp opposing construction of a road connecting Niyamgiri to Kalyansingpur in the district.

The CRPF jawans were deployed there to guard the construction of the road. However, the local residents alleged that government has undertaken the road construction in order to provide bauxite to Vedanta company from Niyamgiri hills.

On the other hand, police said Maoists have engaged the tribal people to commit such crime. "The ultras do not want development in the area. So, they are using the innocent tribal in such things", Additional SP Patitapabana Choudhurya said.
