Malkangiri: A family in cut-off area of Chitrakonda has left village after getting constant threats from Maoists for the last couple of days, sources said on Saturday.

Three members of the family from Jantri village had to vacate their house after the ultras threatened them in a Praja Court. According to reports, one of the family members had earlier moved to Andhra Pradesh in search of work. Suspecting him to be police informer, other members were warned by the rebels.

A sense of panic has now gripped other villagers as already six families have vacated their homes out of fear of the Maoists so far in the area.

Earlier, the Maoists had kidnapped an ex-Samiti member at Poplur village on Thursday. Even though he was released next day, he fled the village apprehending further problems. Sources said Poplur former Samiti member was abducted and asked to hand over part of his land to other people in the village.

Meanwhile, senior police officials claimed that security will be extended to the affected families and such issues will be reviewed for appropriate action.
