Bhubaneswar: A day after the shocking sight of a body being carried for disposal on the back of a trolley rickshaw came to fore, the Odisha Human Rights Commission on Monday sought a reply from Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) over the incident.

Taking so motu congnisance of the matter, the rights panel asked the civic body to submit a report on the incident ,within four weeks.

On Sunday it was reported that, unclaimed bodies are sent for disposal on trolley rickshaws by respective police stations after post mortem on a regular basis. But what is more shocking is that this happens in the full knowledge of BMC.

Soon after the matter came to light, authorities of the civic body had said they will ensure proper care of the unattended bodies and their disposal.

“We will see to it that proper care is taken to ensure that the corpses are transported in a proper manner and cremated. We will make use of a transport vehicle that we have and will also ask the government to allocate more funds for proper cremation of unclaimed dead bodies,” said Bhubaneswar Mayor, Anant Narayan Jena.
