Bhubaneswar: In an initiative to curb violence and crime against transgenders, a fashion show was organised at IDCOL auditorium here on Monday where transgenders were part of the ramp walk.

Six groups walked the ramp displaying fashion highlighting different themes at the event.

Meanwhile, Women & Child Development Minister, Prafulla Samal, the Chief Guest of the event, announced that to reduce the growing rate of crime against transgenders the government is planning to launch an independent helpline for them.

"They often face misbehavior and ill treatment from troublemakers. Therefore, a helpline is most needed. We are planning to launch the helpline soon. Also, stringent action will be taken against persons found guilty for misbehavior against transgenders," he said.

"We too have responsibility towards the society and we also are working to do something for the betterment of the society. We too have talent in us and to show that members of transgender community from around 30 districts participated in the event," Transgender Swity, President of Bright Life Charitable Trust, organiser of the event.
