Angul: A top cadre Maoist leader carrying prize money of Rs 4 lakh shunned his arms and surrendered before the district police at Angul for a peaceful life with his lady love.

The rebel- Dayanand alias Chhotu Ganjhu of Sundergarh-Deogarh-Sambalpur (SDS) Division laid down his arms before Angul SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra along with his beloved Jali Dehury –also a cadre member.

Mohapatra informed that the duo surrendered since the Maoist outfit opposed their relationship.

“While Dayanand carried a cash reward of Rs 4 lakh, Jali carried a prize money of Rs 1 lakh. Both of them grew disillusioned with the Maoist ideology after witnessing  exploitation of woman by members of the outfit,” he informed

Before joining the SDS, Dayanand was active in Jharkhand and was involved in more than 15 major cases including firing.

"The duo realized that senior Maoist leaders were doing nothing for the betterment of the society. We welcome them to the mainstream and would take steps for their rehabilitation as per the Government policy,” said the SP.
