Bhadrak: A group of women on Monday came up with a novel way of staging a demonstration when they opened a liquor counter outside the District Collector's office protesting a newly-opened liquor shop in Mathasahi village here in the district.

Involved in a campaign against illegal liquor trade, the women had been protesting and demanding the closure of liquor vends and bars in their areas.

However, distressed over the newly-opened liquor shop and bar in Mathasahi, the agitated women today staged a demonstration and opened a counter outside the District Collector's office and started selling liquor.

They further warned that the agitation will continue until the liquor shop is closed or evicted.

"The contradictory stand of the government of spreading the message of de-addiction on one hand and simultaneous encouragement of liquor sale on the other has been drawing ire and fuelling protests from women community in different parts of the State," said Menka Jena.
