Bhubaneswar: A normal coloured tigress named 'Rebati' in the Nandankanan Zoological Park died due to old age complications today.

“The condition of the animal was not well for the last two months due to old age related ailments and we had admitted her to the ICU of zoo hospital for last 20 days. She died at around 5.30 am today,” said Jayant Das, Deputy Director of the zoo.

The 18-year-old animal had stopped taking food as she was suffering from loss of appetite and digestive disorders for last few days. Multivitamins and liver tonics with fluid were administered. But, she could not survive, he added.

The tigress was born to Rohit and Shailaza in 1999. She had no offspring, a zoo statement said.

With the death of Rebati, the number of tigers in Nandankanan has come down to 24 including 16 normal coloured and eight white tigers. Total number of tigress is 12, the statement said.
