Bhubaneswar: With the twin cities gearing up for Durga Puja celebrations, Commissionerate police held a preparatory meeting to make the upcoming Puja festivities hassle free.

Speaking to media, Commissioner YB Khurania said 25 platoons of police force will be deployed in Bhubaneswar while 54 platoons of police will ensure tight security in Cuttack during the weeklong festive period.

"Elaborate security arrangements have been made for vehicular traffic management and upkeep of law and order situation during the Durga Puja, Ravana Podi Utsav and idol immersion," Khurania said.

"Undercover police personnel, Quick Action Team (QAT), ODRAF teams will also be in place. Two platoons of SOGs in Cuttack and one platoon will be deployed in Bhubaneswar to ensure that any eventualities are kept in abeyance . Besides, two platoons of CRPF will also keep vigil ," Khurania added.

While 182 pandals of Goddess Durga will adorn Bhubaneswar, 168 pandals will come in the silver city. Police will keep extra vigilance near pandals with gold and silver adornments and decorations.

As part of a precautionary measure, the police has taken measures to book notorious criminals and detain them under the National Security Act (NSA) to prevent any unpleasant situation during the festive period.
