Jajpur: Fed up with the torture by their seniors, three women Maoists today surrendered before the police.

The three women Maoists are Basanti Champia alias Rashmi of Dudisahi village under Kaliapani police limits and Shanti Badra and Suturi Paleya of Baligotha village under Kalinganagar police limits in Jajpur district.

Briefing media persons here, Jajpur SP Anup Kumar Sahu said the three women Maoists were active members of the CPI Maoist Kalinganagar Division. While Basanti had joined the outfit in 2007 as an armed Maoist cadre, the other two had joined later.

He said the Basanti and the other two women Maoists carried a cash reward of Rs four lakh and Rs one lake each on their head respectively.

“The three Maoists were involved in a series of violent acts, notably the attack on the Bansapani police station, attack on a tea garden in Keonjhar, attack on liquor shops etc. Several cases are pending against them in police stations in Jajpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Angul districts,” the SP said adding that they made up their mind to surrender due to torture by the their seniors.

With the surrender of the three ultras, Maoist activities in Jajpur district had come to an end, the SP claimed.

He also informed that as per the surrender policy of the state government, the District Relief and Rehabilitation Committee will provide all possible cooperation to them with financial assistance of Rs 3.75 lakh each.
