Baripada: Three persons were killed and 23 injured in separate road accidents late on Monday night in Mayurbhanj district.

In the first incident, two persons were killed when a Bolero jeep in which they were travelling overturned near a bridge at Mahaladaposa village under Jashipur police limits this morning.

The deceased have been identified as Alok Das and Mantu Kuldip of Champabarada village.

Police said the deceased were on the way to their village from Jashipur market in the late night yesterday.

The bodies were later taken to the Jashipur hospital for post mortem.

In another incident, one person died and 23 others seriously injured when a Kolkata bound government bus from Keonjhar collided head-on with a truck at Dari Chhak under Raruan police limits at about 11 PM.

While the truck driver died on the spot, about 23 passengers were seriously injured. The injured passengers were rushed to a government hospital at Karanjia from where some of them were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their condition became critical.

Rescue of the injured passengers by the police and the fire brigades were delayed due to heavy rainfall.
