Sambalpur: Four days after the stabbing of the Superintendent of Sambalpur Jail, the Dhanupali police today arrested three accused.

The arrested have been identified as Ajay Singh alias Badamundia, Krushna Chandra Majhi alias Raja and Nilakantha Nanda alias Daktar.

Giving details to the media persons, IIC of Dhanupali Police Station Prakash James Toppo said the three accused, who have criminal antecedents, had planned to kill Sambalpur Jail Superintendent Brahmananda Sahu as per the instruction of Sonu Ghosh and Sujit Karna, the two murder accused, who are presently lodged in Sambalpur Jail.

He said the plan to kill Sahu was hatched while Ajay Singh was in the jail. “Before the release of Ajay from the jail, Sonu and Sujit had promised him that they would give him and his associates Rs 10,000 and a mobile phone each after they kill the Jail Superintendent and the Jail Warder,” the IIC informed.

He said the three accused after their arrest were produced in the court which remanded them to judicial custody after rejecting their bail plea.

He also said the police has seized a knife used in the attack, a Bajaj Pulsar bike and a Honda Activa scooter from their possession. “We are in the lookout of another accused who has absconded”, Toppo said.

“Since Sonu and Sujit had planned the murder of the Jail Superintendent and the Jail Warder, police has appealed the court to take them on remand for interrogation,” he added.

Sahu was on the way to his house in the evening on August 3 after conducting a surprise inspection in the jail when four miscreants came from behind and snatched his mobile phone. Later they asked him to give money. When he refused, one of them stabbed him from behind. Soon after the incident, they fled the area.

The Jail Superintendent is presently undergoing treatment at the VSS Medical College and Hospital in Burla where his condition is stated to be stable.
