Cuttack: Two thieves were allegedly beaten black and blue by the villagers in Naiguan under Salepur block of Cuttack district after being caught red-handed while stealing from a house here on Saturday.

As per the sources, the incident occurred at around 11am this morning when the two accused allegedly broke open the lock of one Sushma Panda's house and barged inside in an attempt to steal valuables from the home.

However, the house owner noticed and shouted at them following which villagers rushed and somehow managed to nab the duo.

Getting hold of the duo, the villagers seized all the stolen items from them and set their motor cycle on fire.

The villagers then tied and thrashed both of them mercilessly until Salepur police arrived at the spot and rescued them.

"The duo was handed over to us when we reached the spot. However, their identity has not been ascertained yet. Further investigation is on," said Salepur IIC Prasant Kumar Majhi.
