Cuttack/ Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate police has made elaborate security arrangements as lakhs of devotees from different parts of the State are expected to turn up for the bhasani (immersion ceremony) of Goddess Durga that is observed in a grand manner in Cuttack.

All the roads leading to Devigada, the immersion ghat in Cuttack, have already started witnessing a mammoth gathering since early morning to bid farewell to Goddess Durga today.

The four-day long autumn festival drew to a close with Vijayadashami rituals and ‘Ravan Podi’ being observed on Saturday.

Over 65 platoons of police force have been deployed in the Twin City of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar for the smooth conduct of the immersion ceremony.

Temporary ponds have been dug up on Kuakhai and Daya river banks for the immersion of idols in Bhubaneswar to put a check on pollution of the rivers.

Over 30 CCTV cameras have been installed along the traditional immersion route from College Square to Devi Ghat via Buxi Bazar to keep a close vigil on the movement of the crowd and idols.
